Turkey Tourism is one of the most varied in Europe. Is turkey in Europe or Asia? Well, it’s in both continents. A small part of the country is in Europe and the larger part in Asia. The Bosphorus Strait is the actual division and it divides the city of Istanbul into two.

Turkey is a fascinating country with a rich history dating back many centuries. It has so many attractions that I will have to write many articles to cover them all. We have been fortunate to visit Turkey since the early 1980s for tens of times sending and bringing tourists and pilgrims.

Pamukkale

Translated into English it means “Cotton Castle”, it is a natural site in the province of Denizli with hot springs terraces of carbonate minerals. We stayed in the nearby hotel and enjoyed the mineral waters in the comfort of the hotel’s pool.

Ephesus

This ancient Roman City ruins is a most for every tourist visiting by land or arriving in any of the cruises to nearby Kusadasi.

You may spend a few hours walking through the well kept streets, theaters and museums. The most important being “The Library of Celsus”. It was also famous for the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Near Ephesus is located a small stone house called the House Of the Virgin Mary; tradition tells us that she lived there on her latest years.

Mount Nemrut

This is a 2,200 tall mountain near the city of Adiyaman.  King Antiochus built there his tomb and flanked it with two huge statues of himself and various Greek and Persian gods.

If you visit today you’ll see that the head have toppled from the bodies and lay scattered through the site. The view to the surrounding mountains is awe inspiring.

This is the center of Turkish Riviera with beautiful hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and cafes all surrounding the beautiful beaches.

Kas

This is a cozy Mediterranean city with cobbled streets and many artisans and tourists shops.

Bodrum Castle

Located southwest of Turkey on the Aegean Sea this ancient castle was built by the Crusaders in the 15th Century as the Castle of St Peter. It is one of the best preserved monuments of the Medieval Era. A full museum with underwater facilities is operated on the premises.

Patara Beach

This is a 14 Km long stretch of sandy beach on the Mediterranean, backed by ancient Roman and Lycian ruins and vast dunes with no construction nearby, but a s small café. It is the breeding ground of the endangered Loggerhead turtle.

Ayvalik

Located on the shores of the Aegean Sea this is a purely Ottoman city on the longest sandy beach in Turkey.

Olüdeniz

This is a small village on the Aegean Sea of Turkey at the mouth of the Ölüdeniz River on a blue lagoon. This beach is famous for its shades of turquoise and is one of the best places in Turkey for Paragliding due to its unique panoramic views.
